FAT FENDER FLASH
THE OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER
FOR FORD F-100 ELITE OF NORTHERN
CALIFORNIA
FIRST E-BOARD MEETING OF
2009
On Saturday, January
10 th, your executive board held it first
meeting of
the year. Chapters
represented were: Delta, East Bay, Livermore, Modesto,
San Joaquin, and Silicon
Valley.
After the reading of the
last meetings minutes, and the treasurers report,
a discussion of this years
North-South Run ensued. Earl noted that North
was responsible for the
raffle this year, as well as the fact that we needed to
have representatives helping
with registration and t-shirt sales.
The long anticipated
delivery of belt buckles has finally happened.
Members can order theirs
from either Earl (209)835-7629, or Karen Kleinert
(209)478-1356. The exact
price hasn’t been established yet, but it has been
narrowed down to the $15
range. Call soon…they’re sure to go fast.

At a previous meeting it had
been decided to order some more “drag
plaques” (the club plaques
that we mount on our trucks). It was reported
that the foundry that had
been doing them in the past has gone out of
business, so we’re now
looking for another to get them made. Will report on
the progress of this project
at the next meeting.
Funding, from each chapter,
for E-board operations in 2009 is $125 per
chapter. The breakdown is
$75 for North-South and $50 for E-board. The Eboard
monies are used for such
things as the Anniversary Run, insurance,
postage expenses, and the
many other miscellaneous expenses that come
up throughout the year.
Edith reminded us that if anyone wishes to inspect
the books to see how the
money is spent, they are open to all members.
The 2009 roster was
distributed to each chapter. If you didn’t get a copy
from your E-board
representative, or if I miscalculated the number each
chapter needed, let me know
and I’ll get a copy to you.
The clubs liability
insurance premium is once again due. There’s enough
In the treasury to cover it.
Delta Chapter reported that
since they’re down to so few members there’s just no way
they’ll be able to put on the Annual Easter Run without help.
It was agreed by all that this is a quality run, with a great
tradition, and it would be a big loss if we didn’t do all we
could to help it to continue. Don Cox (Delta) will contact
members of each chapter when he needs help and we all agreed
to do whatever we can to help out. As it stands right now the
tentative date for the event is either the
4 th or the 5th of April.
Nancy Agrusa (Livermore) is
looking into venues and activities for the Anniversary Run.
The tentative date for that is September 20 th. She asked that anyone in the membership
that has some ideas and/or input should contact her ASAP
(her number is in the roster you just got)
so she can get this nailed
down.
An updated Truck Inspection
Form was passed around. The changes were minimal, simply an
updating and correction of what’s been used for ages. A copy
has been e-mailed to someone from each chapter, so they can
make up copies to be used if wanted.
Under the heading of
activities, it was noted that the Easter Run is April
4th or 5th; the Silicon Valley Cruise is April
25th; Modesto’s Graffiti Run is June
19th & 20th, and their Summer Bash is July
19th; Fun Ford Sunday is September
13th; and the Anniversary Run is
September
20th.
That’s all I can remember
from the meeting. Your chapter’s E-board representative should
be able to fill you in with any details you may want, or to
let you know whatever I might have forgotten to list here.
Remember, E-Board meetings are open to any member
wishing to attend, so feel
free to come to the next meeting.

EAST BAY
BANTER
By Ken
Rogers
Hi from East Bay, A few
years back the Golden Gate Chapter, which is no longer with
us, put on the Wine Run. Every year this run was very popular
with the club. At least 40+ trucks would show up, some coming
from as far away as Reno. We would all assemble in Napa, then
cruise to the Napa Valley to tour a winery. Every year they
would pick a different winery to tour. Nothing looks better
than F-100’s on a cruise. After the tour, we would meet at a
park for lunch and buy raffle tickets for their large raffle.
Members that have attended this run remember what a well
planned event this was. We miss the Golden Gate Chapter and
hope maybe some day they will reorganize and
bring back the very popular Wine Run. One of the
options available on the 1956 F-100 was a foot operated
windshield washer. If you wanted to wash your windshield, you
pumped the washer fluid, with your foot, to the windshield,
then turned on the wipers. How do I know this? I have this
option on my truck. How much this cost in 1956, I do not know.
Does anybody? Got my catalog from Sacramento Vintage Ford last
week. This is one of the better F-100 catalogs around. Give
them a call at (916)853-2244 to order yours.
P.S. How about some chapter
news?
EAST BAY ELITE WINDOW
This month members Jim and Edith Hannett,
from Fremont, are featured. The Hannett’s are one of the most
active members. They own a 55 F-100, painted blue with flames.
This nice truck runs a 302 c.ii. engine with a T-5 manual
tranny, and a 9 inch rear end.

Earl Pecka, from the San Joaquin Chapter,
installed a Volare front end to make for a smooth ride. This
truck has made the trio to Tennessee for the F-100
Supernationals. The Hannett’s joined the East Bay Chapter
after meeting members at the Niles Car Show in 1998. Jim
graduated from Newark High School in 1957. He worked as a
manufacturers rep. Edith attended Newark High School and
worked in the electronics and bio-tech industries. They have
one daughter. Jim is currently our chapter treasurer. These
folks attend most of the runs during the year and if you see
them, say hi, and be sure to check out this fine
truck.

BLAST FROM THE
PAST
Quotes from some past
issues of the F-100 Elite newsletters
October 1993, had an article taken from
the Tri-Valley Herald about Livermore Chapter members Scott
and Kathy Manthey and how their third daughter, Courtney, was
born while they were on their way to the hospital, and Scott
handling the delivery. Ford Federation’s April 1991
Newsletter, Federation Communiqué, had bunch of trucks shown
on the cover, but if one looks closely they’re almost all
Chevy’s. August 1993 had a cover that was a reproduction of
the August 1977 edition. Inside, Vi Raffin reminisced about
some of the “old days” and experiences. She mentioned that the
San Jose Chapter at one time had 65 members. Now there’s not
even a San Jose Chapter. Where’d everyone go? One thing I’ve
noticed while going through all the old newsletters is that
Ken Rogers was faithfully submitting articles way back then,
just like he’s still doing now. Great job Kenny. I really
appreciate your dedication and perseverance.

Note: In the 2009 Rosters you should all

for Bill & Dorsa,
Silicon Valley Chapter. The
2 nd phone number should end with a zero (0)

shown.

TRIVIA
Last Month's Question:
Which state was first to enact a seat belt
law for autos, and in what year did they do
it?
Answer: Once again the only reply was from Mike
Conners. He says it was New York, in 1984. My information is
that it was Illinois
in 1955, and I have no idea which is the
correct answer. If anyone out there knows for sure, let us
know.
This Month's Question: What was the name of the first 3D movie,
and what year was it released?
******************************************************************************
Colonoscopies are no joke, but these
comments during the exams were quite humorous..... A physician
claimed that the following are
comments made by his patients
(predominately male) while he was performing their
colonoscopies:
1. 'Take it easy, Doc. You're boldly going
where no man has gone before!
2 .'Find Amelia Earhart yet?'
3. 'Can you hear me NOW?'
4. 'Are we there yet? Are we there yet?
Are we there yet?'
5. 'You know, in Arkansas , we're now
legally married.’
6. 'Any sign of the trapped miners,
Chief?'
7. 'You put your left hand in, you take
your left hand out...'
8. 'Hey! Now I know how a Muppet
feels!'
9. 'If your hand doesn't fit, you must
quit!
10. 'Hey Doc, let me know if you find my
dignity.'
11. 'You used to be an executive at Enron,
didn't you?'
And the best one of all:
12. 'Could you write a note for my wife
saying that my head is not up
there?'
(Stolen from and article by Dave
Berry)

If we learned how to live
from a dog, here's what we'd learn ...
When loved ones come home,
always run to greet them.
Never pass up the
opportunity to go for a joyride, and allow the experience of
fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy..
Take naps.
Stretch before rising.
Run, romp, and play
daily.
Thrive on attention and let
people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple
growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on
your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of
water and lie under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance
around and wag your entire body.
Delight in the simple joy of
a long walk.
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be

If what you want lies

When someone is having a bad
